Who Runs Simple Steps?

How It All Began

Since the inception of Simple Steps on May 1, 2017, we have been dedicated to helping talented immigrant women to continue their career aspirations through self and career development workshops and boot camps, and introducing various career insights from the experts. In the beginning, Doyeon hustled around connecting with her networks to reach out to women who are thirsty to get back into the workforce after immigrating to the U.S. The one-person organization soon welcomed like-minded team members to fulfill Simple Steps’ mission and grew to a team of 18 in just four years.

Life at Simple Steps

We are staying connected, checking off our list of tasks, taking care of our families, and brainstorming the next great ideas. Our bi-weekly all-hands via Zoom keep us all updated on projects and plan new and exciting programs that can help our beneficiaries gain confidence, learn practical skills and career options, network, and restart their careers.

Working remotely has been extremely challenging for many of us so we keep things enjoyable by hosting happy hours and game nights to ensure our mental health in check. We are serious about our work but know how to have fun too!

Fun facts about our team

• Half of the team are winter babies with the most born in January.

• Most of the members’ favorite food is tteokbokki (the Korean soul/street food).

• We live in South Bay, SF, East Bay, Seattle, New York, Chicago, and Orlando.

• When Simple Steps office opened we had an opening party and then the shelter-in-place order was placed a month later, so none of us got to actually work at the new office. 😞
