Join us for an Artist Talk on Thursday, January 28th at 8 PM (PST) to learn about Sienna Ko's world of large-scale illuminating acrylic paintings. Her use of fluorescent and iridescent paints with matte and glossy varnish creates an illusion of changing colors and tones which reflects her body of work; finding the balance between her conservative upbringing and the path to finding her true self as she grew up.
In our everyday life, we possess and depend on certain values that become the criteria through which we place our judgment on the world. People often identified a clear line between good and bad. As an artist, I questioned these assumptions: Where do the lines or values come from? Do I need sharp outlines or not? What should I do in this world, where multiple values co-exist?
Sienna Ko is a Korean artist living in Seattle. She is interested in the moment when two contrasting components coexist and balance each other. She uses a combination of mixed media: spray paint, interference paint, fluorescent paint, varnish to explore texture, surface, and color. She received her MFA at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Sienna’s work has been shown in the United States and South Korea.
